I'm not a huge fan of PG, preferring for the most part Pinot Blancs when the choice can be made. I'll have to try a few NZ examples, though, to see what kind of impression they make. Mark Lipton |

I was intrigued at the suggestion of "classical pinot gris" coming from
cooler climates - such as Italy (!). Many Italian PG's are from very warm climes, not altogether different to southern France, or parts of California here. And have the same problem as the CA PG's - too flabby. I haven't had any EnZed PG, but if it is akin to the wonderful unoaked Chardonnay's from Marlborough, then sign me up. I'll see what I can track down here. Thanks for the tip. Even more enjoyable was the rest of the magazine. On the cover it refers to "sun drenched Hawke's Bay". I couldn't help but spit out my latte as I laughed - recalling a weeklong summer surfing trip on the cape above Gisborne - rain soaked the whole damned time. The article on Antartica brought back less humorous memories. I was working in Wellington when the infamous ANZ flight flew into Mt. Erebus. We had a co-worker on that plane. Sad day. To be sure, there exists a mixed bag - but generally clean fruity dry wines, with earthy pear flavours, with more body than the average Pinot Grigio. > > Even more enjoyable was the rest of the magazine. After a very nice meal, we were sipping on a rather delicious botrytised Riesling, when Mark and I were standing around outside trying to find the Southern Cross - our efforts hampered by a heavy cloud covering (actually, in the whole stay, we never spied our southern astronomical icon. -- st.helier |
