What locations (be it at home, at a particular bar or restaurant, or
any other location/s outside of home) do you most currently enjoy drinking your current favorite alcoholic drink (whisky, wine, vodka, cocktail, beer, etc.) and please say why, for each location named. |

Beer. At home. In the hot tub. Do I really have to spell it out? Of course my favorite location for the morning cup of coffee is the same. Cindy Hamilton |

Drinking beer (Dale's Pale Ale, Pilsner Urquell, Guiness, or ....), downwind from my smoker, while I'm cooking a piece or three of meat (pork, beef, venison, mouflon, turkey, chicken. etc) while sitting in a honky chair or reclining in a hammock, watching the birds at the feeders, or the river, or the scenery wherever I am. Can there be only one favourite? I think it depends on the weather and the situation. Sitting on a patio on a hot summer day there is nothing that beats a gin and tonic. Hold it.... I may have to take that back.... cold beer is nice under those circumstances too. On a cooler day it is nice to sit under a shady arbour and sip some nice dry white wine. Sitting by a fire place on a cold day is a nice setting for a hot rum toddy. Sitting around the table after dinner it is nice to have a brandy. Even nice is a glass of Port with coffee and a cigar. |

About the only time I drink is when we go to Nevada (1 1/2 hours away) because it is free (except for the tip) in the Casinos. I am never the one who drives and we usually stay overnight anyway. Usually only one because of meds and my family says I drink and drive anyway because I use and electric wheel chair. LOL. Vickie |

I do not like it in a box. I do not like it laced with lox. I do not like it with TCA I do not like it when I can't play I do not like it in the gym. Out of curiosity, why would you accuse this lady (who seems to like to
cook, and apparently has health issues) of being a spammer? Or did you mean that to go to original poster (though I can't really see any spam there either)? Sorry I perpetuated the cross post with my answer to Vilco, I forgot I don't have this account set up to only respond on group. I believe some one else posted the spammer issue. I know you guys check
these things out. The poster should have indicated the purpose of this survey. Then again, I get cranky in my dotage. My guess is she's working for some beverage enterprise or using the survey to get her doctorate. I thought about you when I wrote the post but never implied the reply came from a street person but from a person in his cups. If the present trend continues, in a few years, the vanilla extract from a cup of boozeless eggnog will be enough to classify a driver as "drunk." |

Before we were 21 we stole some hooch or had someone buy it for us and
drank in secret, marginal spaces, like behind my friend's mom's garage, and it was thrilling. But that was long ago. I love sipping a double IPA late at night while reading modernist poetry, maybe coupled with a taste of cannabis and Coltrane or Bach in the cd player. I make desultory notes. There are other scenarios, but this one's perennial and never gets old. I'm at times all too aware most of the other 6+billion can't even dream of this luxury, and I'm puzzled as to why I'm so lucky. Of course, being in any bar or pub and talking to an attractive and intelligent woman really works well too; it's just that it doesn't happen with enough reliability. More common and a blast: at a friend's house, after dinner. Inevitably red wine's flowing and five to eight of us go on and on for hours, just talking about whatever comes up, usually politics, religion, sex, a panoply of neurotic behavior, movies, and books. Sips of wine after sex (AKA ****ing) always make the wine taste better than it "really is." Weird: some really spicy, jammy zinfandel seems perfectly suited for drinking in bed, while beer - any beer - does not. But no doubt that's probably just me. I used to like to go into bars I've never been in, by myself, and eavesdrop on people. Not for info on them - they're strangers I'll probably never see again - but just to listen to how people talk, how they enunciate, the types of chat about people and events (rarely ideas), and the types of cons people are laying down truly fascinate me. The best places were bars with at least two pool tables and Stevie Ray Vaughan blasting out of the juke. Lots of colorful speech in those. On a few occasions I've found myself staying at a ritzy hotel near the ocean, and there were very ornate swimming pools equipped with "swim-up" bars. Not a bad place to sip well drinks: margaritas, pina coladas, mojitos, etc. But that's about the ONLY place I'll drink those drinks. Think about it: the thing is built so people will be drinking while physically IN A SWIMMING POOL. If you don't see the beauty in that... |

There's a big Memorial Day weekend bash that I have been attending for 30 years now. It's a big old drunken campout. My two favorite locations to drink are at this party. (1) Thursday afternoon at the Boogie, when my camp is all set up. Sure I was drinking while setting up camp, but the "all done" beer is special. (2) Saturday afternoon happy hour at the Boogine. There's really nothing quite like it and, yes, it's one of those things where you just have to be there. Usually I'd be drinking some kinda rum punch from the bar. -- Sonny Finger Rocky Mount, NC |

My home is always my favorite place to drink whisky. It's where I'm
most at ease and am most likely to take my time and really enjoy what I'm drinking... But outside, there's a whisky bar in Vancouver I live quite near called Shebeen. It really is a whisky bar and has about 160 bottles give or take. It's a very small room, and not so many people know about it. You actually have to walk through another bar owned by the same people, out the back, across a small courtyard and go through one more small red door to get there. They'll let you nose any bottle on the shelf, and the prices are quite reasonable for what they serve. Another plus is nobody looks at me funny when I take notes about what I'm drinking. WE just returned from our first ever family vacation. We've been married for 14 years, never had a real wedding or anything that resembled a honeymoon. Our child was born 2 years later and we've never taken a "trip, trip" without it being business or visiting family. We took a two week, all inclusive trip to Mexico. There is no place more wonderful on the planet, with or without alcohol, for me, than to sit facing the turquoise waters, watching the waves, finding shells, smelling the air and feeling the sand between my toes and the warm water on my body. Adding a drink to that is simply icing on the cake. I also enjoy a warm bath, with coconutty or kakui (sp?) nut scented oil and a glass of wine with candles. I keep swearing that I'm going to do it daily, but I'm Ms. IN a Hurry so I often forget to relax and smell the roses. While in Mexico, after dinner a few evenings, at this special restaurant at the hotel, they made a fancy Mexican coffee that was a real "production"...lit fires on the tequila, whipped cream...stuff I never eat! But I died and went to heaven sitting there watching (I filmed it and might be able to share it on here), listend to live Mexican music and felt as if my husband would have to drag me to the airport and get a crane to lift me onto the plane. We've had major snow since I've returned which has been far from enjoyable for me and where I live, they are not prepared for this amount of snow. They are very short on plows and sanders and I've been housebound. I might make a trek out today but I'll have to see if anthing melts first. Those are my dream places for drinks. Sadly, I'll be going through my annual cancer follow up and will be stopping alcohol for about 6 weeks, so I'll have to find something that comes close to enjoyable. Good topic :-) |

I like drinking the 3.2 beer (even Coors) while camping in the mountains
in Colorado. Actually, the 3.2 Coors tastes better than the regular strength Coors that you have to buy at a liquor store. At home I much prefer strong beers. Bob |
