I recently bought a super cheap bottle of wine from the local gourmet
store, brand name Apostoli, Pinot Grigio. It was on super sale, half
price, and said "highly recommended" on the sale sign.

I have to admit, I drank it with a meal of ham and sweet potatos and
my God! Was it horrible! I couldn't stomach it after a while. Oddly
enough I'm drinking a glass right now in isolation from any food and
have to say that I am enjoying the wine! It does make a world of
difference what you eat with some wines! And some wines seem to taste
better as a late night cocktail. :-)

I will be asking my friends what they are serving for Easter Dinner
before I take a wine over! That is for sure! Either that or we will
have the wine before or after dinner!

Has anyone heard of Apostoli, especially their Pinot Grigio? for 6.99
a bottle I though it was pretty good.

This pinot grigio is omnipresent now. They seem to be serving it at
a lot of restaurants.

Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio, Alto Aldige 2004
Price $23
Rating 87
The most famous Pinot Grigio import in the United States, if not the
world, may be
resting on its laurels. The sip has more tree fruit along with
mineral. Good, but not great, then consider the price.

DH picks up pinot grigio's. They are just not one of my favorite
wines, but now and then I'll drink one that he buys and think it's
'drinkable' with a meal, but as I'm not a white wine lover, you can
count out my opinion; but I think there is a lot of difference between
pinot grigios.

The Apostoli is actually pretty good I think. Obviously I wouldn't
recommend it with ham and sweet potatos. But for 6.99 a bottle it's
pretty good when the occasion doesn't warrant opening the first rate
stuff. :-)

Never had the Apostoli. Good price.
There is a food/wine matching section at the FAQ for this group:
http://winefaq.hostexcellence.com/wine/FAQ.php

Nothing wrong with drinking by itself, but from a matching standpoint
Pinot Grigio is probably best suited for light seafood dishes, or
maybe chicken in a light sauce. If good crispness maybe a fresh tomato
sauce.

Pinot Grigio would not normally be considered a good match for red
meat. Too, this producer's version may not be among the best. Pinot
Grigio is often merely industrial plonk. With ham, a white that might
be worth trying is a Verdicchio.
