Last night with a dinner of smoked duck, Jean opened a bottle of:
2005 Michel Tete Clos du Fief Julienas nose: initially, juicy, grapefruit and red berries, minerals; later, gaining pencil lead and dark fruit notes palate: medium-light body, good acidity, fruit red fruit, later turning darker and more weighty with pencil lead In our continuing exploration of ready-to-drink-now '05 Beaujolais, we opened this recent purchase. Like the '05 Vissoux VV and Brun L'Ancien, this wine was light on its feet, brightly fruity and yet substantial. Perhaps just a touch less appealing than the other two, it's still a very pleasing red wine for summertime consumption. We drank it lightly chilled and found that it lost some of its crispness as it warmed. However, the smoked duck wasn't a great match and overpowered the wine. A good medium-weight Syrah or Grenache would probably have been a better match. Mark Lipton -- alt.food.wine FAQ: http://winefaq.hostexcellence.com |

Opened a 2005 Drohin Crus Beujolais two nights ago and the nose was very floral violets even and the taste more of crisp cherry fruit that remained crisp even without being cold. Perhaps they produced the Michel Tete more to age though typically I don't age them more than 3-4 years tops. |
