Default 2001 CdP "Rubis" P. Lesec

I did some checking Dale wasn't wowed by the Lesec 2001 CdR but wondered if
anyone had any comments on this one. I can pick up a couple of bottles on
closeout but why buy if it's not worth @$18?

Comments on CT seem mostly positive, but I don't know the tasters so
can't really correlate:

My lukewarm comments on the CdR were about value, I'd probably try the
CdP at $18 if I was confident re storage.

thanks Dale, I bought one but hesitate opening it just to know if I want to
buy three more. August in Florida is not the time for drinking big reds.

Joseph,
I hate to be the curmudgeon of this discussion (actually, I revel in
my curmedugeonly tendencies if truth be known) but Patrick Lesec is
known for the oaky wines he produces. From all of your posts here, I
dare say that oaky CdP is not what you look for, so I would be prepared
to open a backup wine should this one prove not to be to your tastes.

Hoo boy rain on my parade, don't you just feel swell. Actually I really
appreciate the commnet, it is exactly what you don't always get from
promises of 91 point ratings (though I must admit that 90+points has in the
past often meant furniture!)

I think I will pass on the others and be content with my $7 find a 2003
Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba "Garabei" bottled by (note not produced, oh well
it is $7) Abrigo Giovanni. It was light and fruity. a bit acidic on the
finish in a sharp way but with a piece of chees (Reggiano) before dinner
and hamburger well I could have done worse.

I don't really know Lesec, but the Rubis CdR didn't strike me as oaky,
just overpriced at $16. Never had the CdP, but shouldn't be oaky,
sounds like no new oak:

Reviews for 2001 Vintage
>From the Wine Advocate, #145 (Feb 2003): "Points: 91-94+. The

Chateauneuf du Pape Rubis is a blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Syrah aged
in equal parts tank and old wood barrels. All of this cuvee comes from
the famed La Crau sector. ... The dense ruby/purple-colored 2001 appears
to be a worthy rival. Exhibiting more garrigue, lavender, and ground
pepper notes in its black cherry, cassis, and plum-scented bouquet, it
is a full-bodied example with terrific purity, a multidimensional
palate feel, and a long, lusty, decadent finish. It will have 15+
years of aging potential." © The Wine Advocate

Don't always agree with Parker's reviews, but he's usually good re
details.

OK OK I open it this week and give it a try. If i love it the four on the
shelf will be gone and if I don't it won't matter :-)

There you go again, Dale, confusing the discussion with FACTS! I really
don't know what we're going to do about this annoying tendency of yours
to substitute information for innuendo, insinuation and blind prejudice.
