The Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Auslese 1976, Dr. Fischer, AP Nr. 3542
013 4 77 was properly stored since release, and had a high fill and good cork. It is light yellow. There is much mixed citrus character, with grapefruit, a touch of lime and perhaps a bit of candied orange peel. Unlike many 76 auslesen from warmer regions that can nearly pass as BA, this wine has little tropical character or honey. There is plenty of acidity to balance the moderate sweetness. The petrol old Riesling character is light. This is a quite decent and was a good value. I would buy it only from warmer years, as the Saar wines, with a few exceptions, can be a bit high in acid in normal years. This area of the Saar Is about as cold a place as you can expect to allow Riesling grapes to mature in any but very exceptional years. |
