Tonight, we were invited to dinner at a friend's house for steak. We
contributed:

1995 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
nose: dill, subtle oak, cassis
palate: medium body, integrated oak, firm cassis fruit, acid

I have never been a big fan of Silver Oak, but did buy this wine at
release. Having read notes in Cellartracker that sounded like this had
reached a good state, I decided to bring this along as a steak wine and
it didn't disappoint. Our non-winegeeky friends greatly appreciated
this wine. We toasted the memory of Justin Meyer with this great
testament to his skill.

In my opinion 1995 was the last good year until 2002 when they were back.
The 1996 to 2001 were mediocre in my opinion. And while everyone had good
1997 in napa, not Silver Oak.

They were my favorite wine from napa for years in my early days.

Now, last time in Napa, year ago...they were in a trailer due to a fire at
winery.

That makes them trailer park wine!!! :-) At least I did not say trailer
trash wine.

I always thought the Alexander was a bit more attractive than the
Napa...too much oak for me and throughout the late 90's the oak levels
were overwhelming. I did enjoy the pre '97's from ALexander Valley
though.
