Costco is back with two Kirkland Signature-label wines, the 2007 Ch.
Nalys CdP ($19.99) and a 2006 Alexander Valley cab ($10.99). I picked up the CdP to try, since the '07s have been noted for high alcohol levels and this one was only 14.2%. Still pretty young, and very much sour cherry on the palate. Even at 14.2% the alcohol is noticeable. But hey, for $20 it's a fair price, and the wine will most likely improve with age. I'm a big fan of Alexander Valley cabs, but they don't usually show up at eleven bucks. I sent the Costco wine steward(ess) an e-mail asking her opinion. Her reply: "Cab is good after many hours of breathing. I tried it at 15 minute intervals up to 45 min. Still was not ready. I put the cork in, tried it the next morning...yummy." There wasn't a lot of it on the shelf, so I'd better get back there ASAP. JJ |
