I had client's for dinner again last night but I picked the wines. We
started with some cold antipasti and brushetta with various toppings the 2007 Antinori Guado al Tasso Scalabrone Rosato which was a real bargain at $25 on a restaurant wine list. The wine was fresh with a tart wild strawberry flavor profile, a nice zippy acidity and just the right amount of fruit to be interesting yet not "fruity". Very Italian, it was so good that we drank two bottles. We then had a tasting of oysters and I ordered the 2006 William Fevre Chablis Bougros. The nose was tight and lemony but the wine was rich and full on the palate. PLenty of citrus and stones with a saline minerality that paired well with the oysters. Everyone opted for fish with dinner and given the limited wine list I opted for the 2006 William Fevre Chablis Le Clos which gave me the opportunity to do a side by side. The Le Clos was much bigger and fatter with ample fruit yet well balanced with acidity. The palate was really plump with citrus peel, white peach, melon and the ever present sea salt minerality. Both were terrific. |
