Default Red wines and headaches

I enjoy a nice red wine but it seems I have to endure a headache
afterward. Is there any reason why or way to enjoy without
the headache. I also get a pretty good flush with red wine.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Hello,
I have a similar problem when drinking more than a half bottle
(what is usual given my wife always drink less than the other half
I found really useful to drink a lot of water during and after the
wine drinking. It helps to "clean me up", and I don't feel
unconformable after a nice wine.
Regards,

Juan

The odds are that you are having a reaction to the histamines in
the wine, particularly given that you mention only red wine.
Histamines are by far the most common sensitivity element in wine.

Solution, if this is indeed the case, is rather simple: take a
Benadryl (an antihistamine) tablet a few minutes before you start
drinking the red wine. If then you are ok, you have found your solution.

The subject of "red wine headaches" is a thorny and contentious one with
no clear answer (as yet). You can see the section of our FAQ devoted to it:

Good luck!
