Tuesday Betsy made some slow-cooked duck legs, I opened a 2000 Lignier-Michelot
"Chenevery" Morey St. Denis 1er Cru. Rich color, with dark fruit and a little damp earth on the nose. Fairly full sensation in the mouth, with black cherry fruit and medium acidity. Tasty but maybe a little simple. But today after a night in bottle, remnants had a spiciness and a depth of flavor I didn't notice last night, plus more pronounced earth and even a note of smoked meat. Pretty tasty. I have one more, will sock away for a few years. I don't really have much MSD experience, didn't really know what to expect, but a really nice wine. B+/A- The last glass or two of the MSD was consumed tonight with a dinner of assorted leftovers. I found myself still hungry a couple hours later, and succumbed to my weakness of salty snacks. Along with the SunChips ® , I had a glass (well, two) of the 2001 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Riesling Qba (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer). Lime and peach fruit, clear slatey minerality, great balance of sweetness and acidity. .B+ .. Grade disclaimer: I'm a pretty easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Dale Dale Williams Drop "damnspam" to reply |
