I'd better post this before the bottle goes out in the recycling:
1999 Amarone, "Conte di Bregonzo" $10US at Trader Joe's. I first tasted this producer's 1997 Amarone and was so impressed that I grabbed a case. It's not Allegrini, but for the $ it's pretty nice. The 1998 followed thereafter, and I deemed it similarly drinkable. The 1999 just hit the shelves at the same price as the 1997, and it's also very pleasant wine. Served blind, I might have mistaken it for a Rhône; it has a bit of that black pepper flavor I sometimes find in Chteauneuf. The wine is medium bodied and relatively low in alcohol for an Amarone at only 14%. Tom S |
