Friends:
We're looking at moving from our present digs (with a below ground cellar where my bottles are currently stored) to a new, larger bi-level house, where the "basement" is only partially below grade. I don't think that this new basement will be nearly as temperature-stable or wine-friendly than our current place. Thus, I'm thinking of purchasing a large temp/humi controlled wine cabinet for long-term storage, in the 200-220 bottle range. FWIW, we generally keep about 15-20 cases on hand; 30 bottles in a below-the-counter vinotemp unit in our kitchen (which we will continue to do), 12-15 cases "sleeping" in the basement in modular wood racks, and 2-3 "drink in the next month or so" cases in tupperware bins in front of the basement racks. Any thoughts on price and value (including names of retailers) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Try the Vinotemps online at Price Costco. Their prices are pretty damn good compared to anyone else I've seen. I ran into the same situation as you, having to abandon my hand built wine room. I eneded up with the Vinotemp Concorde 700 and have been pretty happy. There are models in various price points, but a rule of thumb is to double the amount of wine storage you think you'll actually need. Good luck, Dark Helmet |
