I have mentioned some of mine. How about yours?

I've been lurking and reading this newsgroup for several months. I'm a
newcomer to wines with about four years of dabbling. This past summer I had
the good fortune to spend three weeks in Umbria, Itlay. During that time I
tasted a large number of local wines, both red and white. My favorite
overall, was Montefalco Rosso. I enjoyed several different ones, one by
Antonelli and a second by Arnaldo Caprai; both 2001 vintage. I don't know
if this is an obscure wine to folks on this newsgroup, but it is a difficult
wine to locate in the Boston area.

That's really funny! I have bought a few bottles of Montefalco this
past spring from Roger Gentile and I really love it! Gentile's has
some of it on the shelf at the King Avenue location here in Columbus
Ohio. 614-486-3406 is the number. I also would suggest Ramitello,
which is a similar wine from the Adriatic sea area, I believe.

Montefalco Rosso is a wine made from Sangovisi grapes. More obscure
is the wine named and made from the grape Sangrantino. Caprai is one
of the found fathers in the production of this wine. He has the
premier Sangrantino vineyard and separate bottles and labels "25 anni"
which is a constant 3 beaker winner..(even in 94&96).

He also bottles a slightly lesser, Sangrantino di Montelfalco.

Sangiovese, sagrantino and other non-aromatc red varieties are
permitted.

And because it it more obcure they have made "Montefalco
Sagrantino" a DOCG, while less obscure "Montefalco rosso"
remains DOC? Sorry, but I can't follow that logic.

Here in PA, many local vintners make a red variety called Chambourcin.
I'm not sure if it really qualifies as "obscure", though.

Also, another poster in this forum (st. helier) recently tipped me off
to dessert wines from Australia's Rutherglen appellation. Not cheap,
but well worth investigating.
