F=FCrst von Metternich-Winneburg'sche Dom=E4ne Schloss
Johannisberg/Rhengau Auslese Rosalak A.P Nr. 26026 004 77. This is the basic auslese with the coat-of-arms label on a dark pink background with a solid dark pink capsule. On contrast the BA that I have has the select "Schloss" label with a view of the river below and the Schloss on a peak above. It has a gold capsule with wide blue-grey bands at the top and bottom of the capsule. I had the basic Steinberger 76 auslese several days ago, and it was a bit heavy, had too much iron-mineral character, and appeared to need drinking very soon. Thus I did not give detailed notes for it. On the other hand, this Schloss Johannisberger auslese is first class. It is deep gold,mature, and shold last several years more. It is fairly sweet, but has enough acidity to balance. The bouquet and taste are intense, but very complex and balanced. There is the usual fruit, floral character, and a bit of petrol character expected. However there are hints of herbs, tobacco, minerals, and more than a hint of exotic flower honey. The finish is long. If this regular auslese is any hint of what the select "Schloss" label BA should be, I will be in for a treat when I open the BA. My mailbox is always full to avoid spam.
