Last night I opened a 2004 Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne with a
shrimp and scallop dish. The wine had a nice crisp apple and miineral nose. Typical Corton austerity with underpinings of forward citrus flavors and limestone. Nice balance of acidity and fruit. "B" With smoked port chops I opened a 2001 La Jota Howell Mountain Cabernet.-Black and inky in the glass. Stern black fruits and cassis on the nose with bittersweet chocolate. Fairly ripe and concetrated balck fruits with a smoky background note. Lot's pf jammy mountain fruit and still significant tannins. "B" |

Those are wines built for the long haul which can take decades to soften. I'm still sitting on my '99 and will for several more years. Mark Lipton -- alt.food.wine FAQ: http://winefaq.cwdjr.net |
