Default 2001 La Hota Howell Mtn Cabernet, 2004 Latour Corton Charlie

Last night I opened a 2004 Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne with a
shrimp and scallop dish. The wine had a nice crisp apple and miineral
nose. Typical Corton austerity with underpinings of forward citrus
flavors and limestone. Nice balance of acidity and fruit. "B"

With smoked port chops I opened a 2001 La Jota Howell Mountain
Cabernet.-Black and inky in the glass. Stern black fruits and cassis
on the nose with bittersweet chocolate. Fairly ripe and concetrated
balck fruits with a smoky background note. Lot's pf jammy mountain
fruit and still significant tannins. "B"

I'm not surprised about the La Jota, Bill. Those are wines built for
the long haul which can take decades to soften. I'm still sitting on my
'99 and will for several more years.
