Fat Tuesday Betsy made a shrimp etouffee, but jazzed it up by
including some Cajun andouille. Wine was the 2009 Bart Marsannay - strawberry, good acids, light but a good match with the food. I revisited when we returned from finally seeing "the King's Speech." A little tart and short without food, but still not a bad example of PN rose. B- * Wednesday Betsy had prepped a chicken for me to throw in oven, I also did roast potatoes with mushrooms, dinner was ready when she returned from rehearsal. Wine was the 2001 Lafarge Bourgogne. Lafarge's Bourgogne plot is just outside Volnay AC lines (and used to be classified Volnay). We all "know" that '01 Volnay sucks. We all "know" that Bourgogne should be drunk quite soon. Well, I know that I'm happy drinking this. I liked on release, then it went through several years of showing sharp and hard, without much fruit. But this is really showing well now. Red fruit profile of cranberry and raspberry, pure, good acids without being sharp, no more noticable tannins. Lovely for level. On day 2 it's even fuller, with more of a black cherry profile and soil notes. B++ With orange roughy (I got mixed up, forgot this was on "avoid" Seawatch list), slivered snow peas, and sauteed arugula, the 2008 Lafon*"Les Maranches" Macon-Uchizy. Pretty classic Burgundian Chardonnay - white fruits, good acidity, citrus and mineral, just a hint of toasty notes. B+ * Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency. |

I've got a 2001 Lafarge Volnay that has been creeping to the top of the "to drink" queue. Sounds like it might be good! ;-) Mark Lipton -- alt.food.wine FAQ: http://winefaq.cwdjr.net |
