Tuesday was chicken provencal, with broccoli and couscous, and the 2005 Vissoux/Chermette "Poncie" Fleurie, Velvety mouthfeel, lush black cherry and plum fruit, smoke and cocoa. No tannin left, balanced acids, very good length. Yes, there is a reason not to drink Beaujolais on release. I'm sure this can go farther but I see no reason to. Will get to my other bottle soon and hope it's as good as this one. A-

Wednesday skate grenobloise with brussels sprouts, wine was the 2008 Cazin/Petit Chambord Cour-Cheverny. Romorantin always reminds me of Chenin Blanc, and indeed there are wax & wool notes here, but dominant is lemon fruit that differentiates ir from CB. Fairly full, quite crisp, quite tasty. B+

Last night chicken with preserved lemons, brown rice, and some leftover vegetables; wine was the 2005 Montevertine Pian del Ciampolo. I'm no longer buying Montevertine but that's no reason not to drink those I own. Fairly classic aged Chianti profile, dried cherry and black cherry with some saddle leather and rose notes. With some air it takes on a slight ashtray/oxidation note, but faint. Drink up. B/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Nice note on the Pian del Ciampolo. May I ask what had you stopped buying
Montevertine?

The winemaker/owner Manetti (Sergio's son) decided that the world needed his opinion on racial matters. Referred to Africans as monkeys, discussed which ethnic groups were the dregs of society, and said he was thinking of changing wine name to Mein Kampf. He of course "was joking" when a huge number of these comments were compiled. I'm under no illusion that my social views are universal, and there are plenty of winemakers whose wines I buy that may have views I find abhorrent. But once someone decides that they was to publicize views that I find abhorrent, I can easily find ways to spend my money elsewhere.
