Wednesday was a scorcher, but it was cooler (in the shade) by the river with a nice breeze. Concert was good (Jackie Gage group) and a good crowd gathered. Betsy and I were joined by David and Grace from CA, Betsys sister and family, and several others. We had cucumber-melon soup with crab, leftover lamb, and salad. Others shared bruschetta, salads, and more.
2015 The Withers rose Nice Provence ringer, citrus peel, peach, and strawberry flavors. Good acids, fresh herby nose, good length. B+ 2013 Jaeger-Defaix €śLes Clous€ť Rully 1er Medium bodied, white pear with some oak. The wine is a good foil for the crab, on its own I find the oak a bit more prominent. Ideally Id think of letting this age a few years for the oak to integrate- its got enough acid and extract to age. But in the age of premox I think Ill just choose to drink in situations (lobster and such) where I dont mind some oak. B 2014 Jousset €śExile€ť Rose Pet-Nat, think Fred said Cab Franc. Funky and earthy, red berries and herbs.. Nose reminds me a bit of a lambic beer. B 2016 Finca Wollfer Rose I saw Wolffer and assumed North Fork so was taken aback at vintage. Then saw it was Mendoza which makes more sense. This has more acidity than most Malbec roses but there is a clunkiness to the finish that I dont enjoy., Others liked more. C+/B- Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency. |
