Couple of weekend wines
Had friends at the farm this weekend and opened some old bottles.
1997 Diamond Creek Red Rock Red Rock Terrace (mag) A bit of brick. Dusty Napa notes on the nose, plum and currants with leather. Smooth on the palate red raspberry, espresso, cedar and leather. Needed to be drank. B+
1997 Spottswood Cabernet. Color was a bit off as was the nose and the wine was undrinkable. Bad bottle, bad storage, either way too bad as I've had the wine before and it was usually a long ager.
2013 Kongsgaard Chardonnay Napa. Pale gold in the glass. Clean precise nose of lemons and minerals. Stunning on the palate. Clean and crisp citrus notes with an underlying purity of fruit and minerality that you usually only find in GC white Burgs. Great balance and depth. A
1989 Chateau Latour (mag) Still garnet with little hint of age. Fairly tight nose even after decanting showing a little spicebox and tobacco. Elegant and smooth on the palate with red fruits, plums a bit of wet stones on the finish. B+
1966 Chateau Pichon-Dark red with fair amount of brick at the rim. Iodine and barnyard on the nose initially but red and black fruits eventually coming on strong. Deep and rich texture with raspy tannins still hanging on. Plenty of fruit structure. B
