Sunday was Betsy's last day of season, I was in charge of dinner. She had
mentioned we hadn't had burgers all summer, and grilling season was over. BS! On a cloudy November day I fired up the grill, and put on some thick burgers (with some minced anchovy and garlic). I opened the 2001 Ch. Saint Suplice (Bordeaux AC). This wine was a gift from a wine shop for a load of empty shippers I had brought in. Despite my love of Bordeaux, I seldom run across a Bdx AC (in US) that's worth drinking. This wasn't bad at all- medium-bodied with red plum fruit, a touch of earth on the nose, a hint of cedary oak. Finished it off two nights later with a pot roast- a little more damp forest dloor on the nose, a little less fruit on the palate. All in all, decent QPR assuming it's $10-ish. B Also, the 2001 Cave de Lugny "Les Charmes" MAcon-Lugny from 375. Somewhat dilute green apple fruit, modest acidity. A clean finish at least. Not complaining at $4.99, also not running back for me.
