By far the best in the region: IWB Fohringer in Spitz an der Donau, 18kms (11 miles) up the river Danube, right on the bank of the Danube, excellent choice in top Austrian wines, one of the best in Austria, plus very fine Bordeaux: <http://www.iwb.fohringer.at/html/home.php> Another top place (the best in Krems), with a good choice of top Austrian and Italian wines: Weinhandlung Noitz im UND <http://members.aon.at/wein.handlung/> > I've followed the recent discussion on Austrian wines, which was > interesting. Be sure to heed M. Pronay's advice and stop in at Fohringers. Great
shop. Which producers are you planning to visit? After that I might be able to suggest a few more... e. |

Right in Krems I can think of 2 offhand:
Weingut Aigner (www.aigner-wein.at) Winzer Krems And in Kremstal (the surrounding region) I would recommend: Nigl (www.weingutnigl.at) Weingut Malat (www.malat.at) Sepp Moser (www.sepp-moser.at) Cheers! |

He is a most charming person and speaks English evry well. He was the former CEO of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board. M. |

![]() My restaurant recommendations: 1) "Mörwald im Kloster Und", Undstraße 6, Krems Tel. (02732) 70493, www.moerwald.at (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) 2) Zum Kaiser von Österreich, Körnermarkt 9, Krems Tel. (02732) 86001, www.kaiser-von-oesterreich.at (closed on Sundays) 3) Landhaus Bacher, Mautern (4 km from Krems) Tel. (02732) 82937, 85429, www.landhaus-bacher.at (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) (One of Austria's best restaurants) 4) Loibnerhof, Unterloiben (7 km from Krems, on the way to Dürnstein), Tel. (02732) 82890 (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) Has a very beautiful garden - go there for lunch on a sunny day, preferably not on a Saturday or Sunday (too many people...). Take the train to Unterloiben (stop on request), walk down to Loibnerhof, have lunch, walk along the Danube to beautiful Dürnstein, then take the boat (or train) back to Krems. If you speak some German, you may want to search on http://www.gaultmillau.at/ar/rs/suche.cfm Thomas |

Located in the former monastery ("Kloster") Und, under the same roof as Franz Noitz' Weinhandlung (wine shop), and within walking distance from Undhof estate. > 4) Loibnerhof, Unterloiben (7 km from Krems, on > the way to Dürnstein), Tel. (02732) 82890 Excellent, too, including a very good choice of Emmerich Knoll's wines. (Josef Knoll, the owner, is Emmerich's cousin.) M. |
