Default wine history question

I was wondering if anyone knew what type of wine (varietal) people
typically drank in biblical times. I know that wine is often sited as
being consumed, so I figure it was pretty big back then.

I did some quick research, but could not turn up anything. Thanks for
your help.

Grapes were grown all around the eastern mediterranian. Romans, Greeks,
et al. grew grapes. Some of the older vines in Italy are supposed to be
of Greek origin. The wines of ancient times were not finished 'dry',
however. They were probably sweeter than contemporary wines are. The
wines of southern Italy and Sicily (such as Ciro, Aglianico, and Negro
Amaro) may hold clues to the taste of ancient wines.
