Field trip yesterday to N. Dallas. That always means a restaurant
exploration. We found a French "Provencal Bistro" style place called Lavendou and had a somewhat pedestrian heavy lunch. I started with escargot (I know, cliche--but I hadn't had any in at least fifteen years, so I thought maybe something had changed. It hadn't.) SWMBO did a goat cheese topped salad, which she reported as excellent. Main course for me was a rare top sirloin topped with a maitre'd pate, which wasn't too bad. Accompanied with mixed mini-vegetables (did I mention cliche?) and "pommes frites"--which were McDonald's extrusion fries, only slightly crisper. Wife had lamb chops with same accompaniments. Probably not a place to revisit. But, the wine was good. Label was "La Roche d'Argent", Margaux '02. Bottled in the "region" not at chateau, so probably some sort of negociant/combine operation. Color was a deep brown with good legs. Nose was prune and stewed dark fruits with a bit of leather and sandalwood lurking. Good mouthfeel and follow through of dark fruits, leather, mocha and maybe a very slight tinge of barnyard funk. I thought it was quite good for a very young Bdx. Anybody know anything about this label? Can't find it at Sam's, Zachy's, PJ's or even wine-searcher.com. Did see it on the wine list of another French restaurant in the area, which will be next excursion's repast. Sorry, Ed, no help. Does sound like a negociant label. Margaux the
appelation seems to have been doing well last few vintages (after kind of lagging in late 80s & 90s) . |
