How many pounds of fresh grapes can I safely fit into a 32 gallon
primary without turning the floors purple, and what could I reasonably expect to press ( +/- ) from that quantity ? |

It may depend on the shape of the container but my guess would be about 215 to 220 pounds of grapes which would yield about 17 to 18 gallons of wine Most of my fermentation is done in 15 gallon primaries and 100 pounds is a good amount for this size. I also have a couple 30 gallon primaries and they will easily hold 200+ pounds. Over 215 or so would be pushing it though. |
