Noobie over the edge?
 

Hello:

10gal. of 3 different wines going and can't wait for the strawberrys
and rhubarb to come along. I look in vacant fields and everyones yard
for lilac. I've found a ton of lilac but it's not available, being
cared for and loved by the owners.

Last weekend my mother-in-law gave us some prunes, 6lbs. Of course we
can't eat 6lbs. of prunes (yikes!) so 4lbs. are bubbling away. So far
it tastes like Dr. Pepper. Hmmmmm Is this madness going to end or
will the obssession continue?

I have read references in the archives to Lum's recipe for
strawberry/banana but can't seem to locate it. Any pointers would be
appreciated.

Welcome to the club...I was the same way during my first year of winemaking.
Now, it is just a very controlled obsession. Lum's site is very good - I
usually go back forth between his site and Jack's site

No, there are no limits. I tend to add 1-3 carboys each year. I have been
making wine for 25+ years. Think about that. I am currently madly trying
to bottle as much as I can to free up carboys so I can be ready for this
summers fruit with out adding to many more carboys.

Thanks for the insight to the future. But it's even worse than I can
imagine.

Been walking around the house after work trying to figure out where to
plant raspberrys, blueberrys, reading to see if I can grow cranberrys.
Went up the canyon to see if the elderberrys were flowering yet and
eyeball the wetter areas for dwarf Oregon grape. Staked out a
blackberry patch and tried to find blackcaps and wild raspberry
patches. And all of a sudden that one Oregon grape in the back I've
been trying to get rid of is a treasure to be nurtured along with the
dandilions! Oh my... there's not enough time for all the
possibilities.... :-)

Yep, you've got it bad. There's a funny thing about having enough time, if
you are over 50 you know that you only have 30-40 active years left to do
all these things. If you are under 50 you know that you don't have time to
do anything.

The Lavender is just starting to flower and SWMBO was getting ready to
pull the flowers, you know to promote vegitative growth instead of
going to seed. "Uh..., hey, honey, let me take care of that!"

Spotted a huge patch of untended, unloved lilac yesterday.

I got it bad.

Steve, I was going to do lilac, in fact I pulled the recipe off Jack's site.
Be careful of the lilac - some is poisonous; check with someone, okay.

There was a discussion some time ago. I know Jack and others have made
lilac wine. I have about 10 bushes of lilacs in about 4 different kinds,
from new late-flowering hybrids to the old-fashioned lavender lilac. When I
looked it up, I couldn't determine if the kind I had was or wasn't
poisonous, so I didn't make it. Someday, I'll have the time to thoroughly
research it...and then I'll try it.
