I am making 5 gallons of Birch sap wine.
The recipe is for 1 gallons and calls for bringing the sap to a boil before adding the yeast. There is no problem to bring one gallon to a boil cooling it and adding the yeast. However, with a batch of 5 gallons I cannot find a large enough pot to boil 5 gallons at one time. So I wonder if its necessary to bring the sap to a boil? -- Denis Sprucewood, Rothesay, N.B |

Try a beer brewing store or website, they should have plenty of pots which
would allow you to boil 5 gallons or even more. Boiling an entire batch is common practice in beer making. you can pick up a 7.75 or 15.5 gallon beer keg, cut the top off and you have
an awsome brew pot. That is what I did. -- Joe Romero Panama City, FL "Denis Marier" > wrote in message ... > I am making 5 gallons of Birch sap wine. > The recipe is for 1 gallons and calls for bringing the sap to a boil before > adding the yeast. Thanks to every one for their inputs.
At this time, I had to do it by batches. The kitchen floor is still sticky! I will keep my eyes open for a beer keg for new year. Try a restaurant supply company. They have all sizes of pots and kettles.
Perhaps some used ones. Bill Frazier Olathe, Kansas USA "Denis Marier" > wrote in message ... > Thanks to every one for their inputs. > At this time, I had to do it by batches.
