Now this may sound sacrilegious, but I have the opportunity to pick up a few
cases of concord grapes at a discount. Since we're leaving soon for a 10 day vacation, no time to start this batch. I'm wondering if I could freeze the grapes, and start it when I have time... I'm thinking it may help with the juice extraction. Anyone ever try this? Thanks! Steve |

Steve,
Freezing fruit of all type is often discussed on this group as a way to get a better yield out of the fruit. I don't think I would want to do this with whole grapes if I was making a white style wine as you might get a beter yield from the skin which you might not want, but for your concord it is probably an excellent approach. Back in the mid-90's, my Dad picked and froze a bunch of Concord grapes for
me. He lived on the coast of BC, I was in the interior. I took them home with me after one visit and made a wine. I cut the juice with water, since the grapes were grown just feet from the ocean and were very "hardy". I think I cut it about 50/50 (I'd have to look up my recipe to be sure). It made a lovely blush wine. Dan. "Ray Calvert" > wrote in message m... > Steve, > > Freezing fruit of all type is often discussed on this group as a way to get > a better yield out of the fruit.
